How do you get married on Skyrim?
71When you're not hunting down dragons for new powers, helping the poor citizens of Skyrim from their doom or joining Guilds to be more popular, you may want a married life in Skyrim. This guide will help you on your way to do this.
Finding the Amulet of Mara
To get married in Skyrim, you must have the Amulet of Mara, which shows to the citizens of Skyrim you're open and ready for married life. There are many ways you can get the amulet, the easiest is travelling to Riften to purchase it.
I believe Riften is one of the places highlighted on your map already. It's located down the South-East of Skyrim - East of Ivanstead and South of Windhelm. If you find places like Goldenglow Estate, Merryfair Farm and Shar's Stone, then you're on the right path.
Once you've found the town and got passed the stern locals, you should locate 'The Bee and Barb', then turn left to the market stalls. There should be a house with a large front garden and red banners on the outside walls, that's where you need to go.
When inside, seek Maramal. He'll explain what he does then ask if you can purchase the amulet. He'll sell it to you for 100 coin. There are other ways, as I've said, but they're harder than this easy option.
Marrying
Now you have the Amulet, you must wear it. Once worn, you can interact with various NPC's around the Skyrim world and they will ask about the amulet. The people may be male or female and there seems to be no sense of gender in Skyrim. Once they've shown an interest, you have to say you have an interest back.
I must warn you: you can only marry once. There are ways to marry again on PC, but I'm on the Xbox. I'd choose wisely who you want to marry, as there are many people in Skyrim willing to.
Once you've exchanged vows of love for each other, you have to go back to Riften. Go to Maramal again and tell him you've found someone. He will arrange for you and your chosen women to be married tomorrow. After you've finished you conversation, you can simply wait (back button) until the next day - there will be a quest line to get married.
You take your vows and can leave the chosen character standing there if you're unsure. Once married, you must find your wife/husband and inquire where you're going to live. She may ask if you want to live with her, or you can tell her to live with you. In a day or two, she/he will be in your house and you can live happily ever after - hurray!

And you never know if it is worth it to back to the save where you can still do the quest... or mope around for the next five quests. But, it comes with the territory of a large game with plenty of side quests. Alas.

I had a glitch with Lydia (Whiterun house carl) when I got married where her body showed up at the wedding. It was hilariously... tragic.
